Threaded necklace from my inner child to a magical little girl

I remember when I was a child I loved to make something from nothing. That nothing could also include threads. We always had threads in our house. Threads and yarn makes a beautiful starting point for creativity to occur. I made new threaded hair for shaved doll heads, I made necklaces, embroidery, crochet and knitting projects.

I feel threads magical:

  • We can weave new tapestry from only threads
  • Weave the fabric
  • Knot to secure what needs to be secured
  • Knit the sweater
  • Tie up something
  • Actually we can also “ follow the golden thread” to get insights from our life.

I am now in Portugal, staying here with my family for 3 winter months to experience a warmer climate than in my home country Latvia. We live in a small village Travancinha in the countryside. Nearest towns are Seia and Oliveira.

Here we were invited to the birthday party for one magical 7 year old girl. She and her family likes handmade gifts. We are in the middle of nowhere in relation to sustainable shops where I usually like to buy things, so we decided with our boys to make handmade gift for a girl. Smallest boys made greeting cards, drew and wrote a book about dinosaur and the egg. My eldest son cooked the cookies. And I made a threaded necklace, the one like I used to make when I was a little girl.

And once again I had threads with me. I brought embroidery threads with me from Latvia. These were Mettler Silk Finish Cotton Nr.28 which are great for hand embroidery, hand quilting, decorative stitches and also for other creative works. And it’s natural, it’s long-staple Egyptian cotton, strong and sturdy.

This time I also added crystal to the necklace, knotted in thread holder. When I first stepped on the land of Portugal I was awed to see the first crystal I almost stepped on to. Later I noticed that they where everywhere. We live quite near to the Serra de Eštrela mountain, and in this area definitely they are a common thing. So I collect the most beautiful ones and decorate our temporary home or put them on the altar.

The one I added to the necklace has a magnificent shiny mineral attachment, like a mirror, like a spark, like a doorway to eternity. Making threaded necklace was a slow process and opportunity to go back to my inner child, filled with joy and passion for making slow things with hands. Spark of inspiration that comes to reality, without thinking how much time it will make. And indeed there is only this moment. So called future is being written this moment. And this moment of creation I filled this necklace with inspiration, passion, joy and I even connected with the crystal and encoded high frequency attitudes of Love, Praise, Gratitude, Trust and Hope which are moving our existence to a new era and new way of experiencing our beingness.

And I hope that this necklace will be a piece of jewelry that brings endless joy, smiles and happiness to this little girl.
